The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced a major leadership reorganisation following resolutions adopted by its Council and National Executive Committee on February 2, 2026.
In a public notice issued from the party’s headquarters at Azimio House in Nairobi, the coalition confirmed that former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has been appointed the new Party Leader, replacing late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is the previous office holder.
“Following the resolutions of 2nd February, 2026 of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party’s Council and National Executive Committee, the party notifies the public of the change of the following officials,” the notice stated.
Alongside Kalonzo’s appointment, the party also named Caroli Omondi, as the new Secretary General, while Phillip Kisia was appointed Executive Director .
“The new Party Leader is H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, E.G.H, SC, the new Secretary General Hon. Caroli Omondi, MP and the New Executive Director, Mr. Phillip Kisia,” the notice read.
The changes signal a strategic shift within the opposition coalition as it recalibrates its leadership structures ahead of future political engagements.
Azimio La Umoja has been Kenya’s principal opposition outfit since the 2022 General Election, bringing together several parties under a broad reform and governance agenda.
Kalonzo, a long-serving politician and former Cabinet minister, has been a key figure within the coalition and national politics for decades.
His elevation to party leader is expected to consolidate Azimio’s internal cohesion while sharpening its oversight role.
The appointment of Caroli Omondi, the Suba South Member of Parliament, as Secretary General places a sitting legislator at the centre of the party’s administrative and organisational operations.
Phillip Kisia, a former Nairobi County clerk, takes over as Executive Director, a role responsible for day-to-day management of the party’s affairs.
The coalition comprised of parties including the Orange Democratic Movement (which ditched the coalition for a working arrangement with President William Ruto), the Jubilee Party, NARC–Kenya, KANU, and other parties. Former president Uhuru Kenyatta is the party's patron.
